Our Mission
Lalmba Canada has been designated by the Canada Revenue Agency as a registered charity (Registration Number 723646683 RR 0001).
Our mission is to help the most vulnerable children who are living in extreme poverty by ensuring that they have the ability to continue their education into secondary school (Grades 9-12) or vocational school. We provide our service in a remote village in Matoso, Kenya and surrounding areas. Matoso has been called “the end of the road” as it is exactly that – a small remote fishing village on the shores of Lake Victoria with no running water or electricity.
For children in this area, schooling is only funded by the Kenyan Government up to grade 8. Once a child completes grade 8, they must complete their provincial exams and if successful, they then rely on their family’s ability to pay for their schooling in order to advance. Due to the poverty in this area, this dream for most children remains just that, as the funds are simply not an option for most families or caregivers who must focus more on basic life existence. For those children not able to continue into secondary school, they typically face a life of servancy.
For students who are eligible, Lalmba Canada provides:
- school uniforms
- payment of tuition
- school supplies
- room and board expenses (for a limited number of students)
We are working to not only change the lives of our students and their families currently, but also to empower youth and change history for this struggling community as a whole.
