Colleen McIlveen

My name is Colleen McIlveen and I am an active retired Grandma of three beautiful girls.
I first heard about Lalmba from Bev, and I have been following the Lalmba walkers for years on their adventures across Kenya. I have always been amazed at the dedication of the walkers through some of the challenges they face as well as the incredible adventures they share. I hear about the success rate of this program, how the students that have benefited are not only so appreciative but how they are now giving back to their community. In these times of such negativity, it is nice to hear of successes, especially for children.
On a personal level I am excited and to be honest, a little apprehensive, to be participating in Tembea Na Mimi 2026! This adventure is an amazing opportunity and will be a challenge for me both physically and mentally. It is a 260 km walk being led by drovers with camels across southwest Kenya, over mountains, through rivers, sleeping in tents with wild animals nearby! Experiencing Africa and its culture will definitely be a lifetime highlight and will push me to the very edges of my comfort zone. But the main goal here is to make a positive impact for the children and this community.
Education can change the world! Any donation is appreciated. Thank you.
